"This is quite unexpected," said the Clockwork Book. It had lost her inside the buildings, but otherwise had been tracking Bonnie's every move on its televideo screens.

The Book's gearworks quieted down considerably once Bonnie was on her way. Tallie had left the oil can behind and she was watching, too, as Captain Scarlet made her way across the city.

The Book seemed concerned. "They've been driving her toward the Experimental Research District, as planned, but now that she has her own aircraft I can't predict where she'll go." It thought furiously. "Tallie, it's time for you to take Rosie's mechanism..." it brought up a map on one of the screens. "...here. Quickly, please," it said over her protests.

"Tallie...." the Book tore its eyes from the screens. "Captain Scarlet is The Right Sort of Client."

Tallie remembered that this was important. But, jeepers! She opened the door and rolled Rosie's big drilling machine into the tunnel. "I hope you're recording this!" she yelled, but the Book had made another call on the videophone and was already deep in conversatio

The Book does seem to be operating beyond its original parameters.
