Well, that pistol would have come in handy, Bonnie mused. She was picking up speed in her long fall despite the amount of inertrium that buoyed her gear. She ticked off the assets she had on hand and frowned. Not a lot to work with. She did what you shouldn't do, and looked down.

Far below her the remaining Hoteliers, etc. were wrestling with... a huge balloon! They'd snagged one of the abandoned balloons from their parade and were bringing it her way. Bonnie smiled. The group paused politely long enough for the tentacled scientist to splash at their feet, then dragged the big soft balloon more or less under Bonnie. Someone was directing them to pull it a little left, no - to push it a little right - no, back the other way again... and Bonnie gathered herself up in a ball, the better to take aim at the gigantic cushion underneath her.

She was drifting, she saw, and tried desperately to correct her path. The Hoteliers etc. also tried to correct, and as a result she was off course again. They all overcorrected the other way and Bonnie saw that she was still about to miss the balloon as the ground flew up toward her.

She decided not to try to shift her course again. She'd let her new crew do it for her. Down below, unfortunately, they decided to stand still and let her aim herself. Bonnie was going to miss the balloon by a good six feet - Just enough room for me to dig my own grave, she observed. The ground below prepared itself to give her a good, hard sla
